You repel money not because of your circumstances, income, or luck, but because of an underlying negative paradigm about wealth — inherited from how your family related to money — that runs beneath your conscious goals and quietly caps what you'll allow yourself to have. You reverse it by consciously raising your self-image: sending out the right vibration, removing subconscious resistance, and practicing physical rituals like carrying cash and giving generously that retrain your relationship with money. Wealth follows self-image, not circumstance — expand your internal "container" and the results have no choice but to follow.

Key Takeaways

  • Your financial results are set by your subconscious paradigm — your self-image around money — not by your circumstances, upbringing, or luck.
  • There are only two reasons you don't have what you want: you're not sending out the right vibration, or you're allowing subconscious resistance to block it from arriving.
  • Carrying physical cash, such as a bundle of five-dollar bills kept close to your body, is a practical way to retrain your relationship with money.
  • Giving generously — tipping well, helping others, treating money as an investment rather than an expense — sends a signal of abundance that, according to Napoleon Hill, tends to return roughly tenfold.
  • Think of yourself as a container for wealth: a small container will overflow and lose money no matter how much flows in, so the real work is expanding your capacity to hold and manage more.
  • Reversing a scarcity paradigm inherited from your family takes sustained effort over months, not a single affirmation or a single windfall, because the belief was built over years of conditioning.

Today's Focus: Why You Repel Money▶ Watch from 0:01

Good morning, and welcome to today's video, wherever you're tuning in from around the world. In yesterday's video, we talked about planning your day: waking up with intention, going to sleep with intention, focusing your mind first thing in the morning, and practicing gratitude first thing in the morning to set the intention for the day. We also talked about jogging and physical activity mixed with affirmations, mixed with imagining and affirming your goals. We talked about how you can combine these practices together: take one idea, mix it with another. We covered the vision board and affirmations.

Yesterday we talked about physical activity mixed with personal development, bringing these ideas together to maximize your results. Today's topic is one of the perfect ones — today is about attracting money. Money is a burden for many, many people. On the deepest level, humans seem to repel money from their reality solely because of the negative belief system surrounding it. You cannot attract anything into your life if you're focused on the lack of it.

You Are the Creator, the Universe Is the Responder▶ Watch from 1:40

You can probably think back to a time when you were completely broke, when all that was going through your mind was, 'I need money. I want money. I have no money.' Remember: when you speak or think in desperate terms, you are only expressing lack to the universe. You are the creator, and the universe is the responder.

Let's break this down. On the deepest level, humans seem to repel money because of the negative belief system around it. They're looking at what their parents created, what their grandparents created — the generational downline, if you will, that they're a part of, simply because of their last name.

This is where you can start making the decision to say no more. Maybe you're not where you want to be financially yet — that's okay. Understand where you are and understand where you want to go. But it starts with a decision. It actually starts with becoming aware of it, and by watching these videos, you're becoming aware that you may not be attracting the financial wealth you want because you have an underlying negative program, paradigm, or self-limiting belief about yourself and your full potential that's holding you back.

On a conscious level, you may know exactly what you want. You're focused on it, speaking and visualizing more money and more abundance into your life. But at a deeper subconscious level, you may still hold a negative paradigm — a negative self-image that says you're not at that level yet, that you're not ready for the responsibilities that come with earning that money. I love the comparison to lottery winners: people win an obscene, life-altering amount of money, and five, seven, ten years later they're back to where they started before they won. Why? Their paradigm never moved. Water seeks its own level — their income retraces down, and they end up the same person, because they were never ready for the responsibilities that come with that level of income. Maybe you're not yet either.

The Two Reasons You're Not Where You Want to Be▶ Watch from 4:39

That's the deal: when you're ready, the universe delivers. When you reach that level of awareness, self-confidence, intelligence, and information — when you reach that level of belief and conviction, with a self-image and confidence that you are there — the universe will deliver it to you.

If the universe hasn't delivered yet, here's why: there are only two reasons you are not where you want to be in life. Number one, you're not putting out the right vibration. You're not consciously sending out, 'I am so happy and grateful that my goal has already manifested.' This is the law of cause and effect — if you are sending out the right vibration, know that the universe is responding to you. Action, reaction; cause, effect.

That happens by law. So if the universe always delivers what I ask — and we spoke about this in a past video — why don't I get everything I ask for? Number two: allowing. You're not allowing it into your life.

You have a block. You have resistance. Something inside you is saying, 'Universe, keep this away from me. I'm not ready yet.' At a subconscious level, you don't even know it's there — but look at your results. I always go back to this: your results tell the truth.

You might be saying, 'Matt, I have my vision board. I have my affirmations. I have my goal. I start my day the right way. I'm jogging, I'm training, I'm mixing a lot of these things together. I cut alcohol. I cut sugar. I'm doing so many of the right things — I just don't have it yet.' There is something in your paradigm, your programming, your self-image, your confidence, that is holding you back, not allowing it, resisting it. You need to identify what that block is.

The Five-Dollar Bill Practice▶ Watch from 7:18

A good trick is to keep a bundle of notes in your pocket as you go about your daily activities — a bunch of five-dollar bills, for example. The reason for fives is that it feels like a large wad of cash when you stuff it all in your pocket. Keep it in a top shirt pocket, close to your heart, and as you walk around, feel it there.

Repeat positive money affirmations such as, 'I am richly rewarded with money. Money flows to me easily. I always have money with me.' When you go to spend the cash from your top pocket, you won't feel as bad, because to the mind, multiple five-dollar bills seem like a much smaller amount than tens and twenties. In practice: take a hundred dollars every two weeks — two hundred a month — or whatever amount works for you.

Budget that into your monthly expenses, and break it into five-dollar bills. Have a plethora of five-dollar bills and always have them with you. Feel that wad of cash and try not to spend it — just have it.

Let it accumulate — it's energy. Touch it, feel it, assume it. Visualize that it's all hundreds, and soon it will be.

Another factor you may not be aware of, one that's largely responsible for your inability to attract money, is the feelings and thoughts you produce when you spend it or give it away. Many people don't like to spend money, and when they do, they produce a negative emotion in the heart. This only embeds negative energetic vibrations into your being, which in turn bring about circumstances where money runs from you. Here's the solution to turn that around.

Change Your Perception: Nothing Is Spent, Everything Is Invested▶ Watch from 9:14

You must hold gratitude for what you are about to receive in exchange for the money. Repeat positive thoughts in your mind such as, 'I'm thankful for this money. I'm helping others improve their lives by giving it away.' It's a small change in perception: nothing is ever spent. You never spend your money or your time — everything is an investment.

Change your mind. You're investing time with people, energy with people, emotion, money, resources — don't spend things, invest them. Everything is an investment. Change your perception so that you invest your time, money, energy, and resources wisely for your own good.

Do not feel bad about it. Be thankful that you even have it in the first place, and hold the feeling and thought that plenty more is coming your way as you give it out. Giving is receiving in universal law. Do not put up resistance.

Energy must return home. Since everything is energy, giving money out matters. That said, I'm not saying go give five thousand dollars to somebody sitting on the street and expect God to wire you fifty thousand back — that would be a little out of proportion.

Just think of this money, these five-dollar bills, as energy. Take the valet — a small thing, he went and got your car. Just have five dollars and give it to him. You're investing that energy into him, into the relationship: you took care of me, you looked out for my car, made sure everything was good — here's five dollars.

Thank you — and when you come back, he's going to treat you very well. I love speaking on things I can personally attest to. I had gone to a hotel in Frankfurt, Germany, a year or two ago, and we made such an impression on the concierge and the staff outside — generous, personal, always a thank you, always a 'how are you, how's your day,' always money for helping with the bags — every time leaving the hotel or returning, always investing that energy into the relationship.

One year later, I went back and ended up staying at the same hotel. They remembered me and welcomed me like family: 'Oh my gosh, so good to see you! How are you? It's been a year!' They knew everything.

They asked about everyone I'd been with. How is he? How is she? How is everything? I was amazed — think of how many people they see on a daily basis, new guests checking in and out of that hotel every day for a year. But they remembered me as if I were family.

Just by investing energy, time, attention, and maybe a little bit of money into that relationship, look at how the universe responds. So don't feel bad about it — 'Oh, I gave five dollars to him. Now I'm giving another five. That's ten. And if I tip everybody here, that's twenty.'

The Multiple of Ten: How Giving Returns▶ Watch from 13:05

'I don't want to give twenty dollars every time I check in' — that's thinking from lack. Don't hold on to it. Give it out. Willingly give, and graciously receive. As you study this and begin to put it into practice, you'll start to get feedback from the universe. I learned this from studying Napoleon Hill: energy returns in a multiple of ten.

It may not happen right away, and the full tenfold return may not come all at once. But what I've found is that things happen, positively and negatively, in a multiple of ten. Which means if you do something positive — if you give or invest five dollars into helping a situation — what Napoleon Hill says is a tenfold return comes back: fifty dollars. In some way, shape, or form, you'll net a profit of fifty dollars. You may not connect it to that five-dollar investment from months back, but the universe always remembers.

This also holds for the negative side. Say you steal something — the cashier forgets to ring up the water, and you think, 'I'm just not going to say anything, it's only two dollars, it's fine.' You're going to lose fifty dollars in the weeks and months ahead. Somehow you'll get overcharged. Somehow you'll get a parking ticket. Somehow, someway, something is going to happen, and you'll see negative fifty dollars — and with awareness, you'll be able to connect it back to what was done months before.

Nothing is created or destroyed — everything just moves and returns in different forms and facets. Investing five dollars positively returns fifty positively. Stealing or taking five dollars for personal gain, you're going to lose fifty in the near future. This is just how it works.

Scale it up: somebody makes an investment deal and tries to do something sneaky under the table for an extra percentage — take your fifty grand, fine — but you're going to lose a half-million-dollar deal in the weeks and months to come. I think this is striking a chord with some of you: 'Wait, this is how it works.' This is how it works. Everything moves in a multiple of ten.

You Are a Container for Wealth▶ Watch from 15:46

Think of yourself as a container for wealth. If your container is small and your money is big, what's going to happen? You're going to lose it — your container will overflow, and the excess money will spill out all over the place.

Therefore, you must grow into a bigger container so you can not only hold more wealth but also attract more wealth. Nature abhors a vacuum, and if you have a very large container, the universe will rush to fill that space. Cause and effect, action and reaction — nothing is created or destroyed. When you send out energy, it leaves a void, and the universe fills it back in.

That empty space gets filled in — action, reaction; cause, effect; energy returning home. This is why you send out positive and receive positive; you send out negative and receive negative. This happens by law. Begin to think of energy this way: when you invest the thought, there's a void.

There's an empty space, and it needs to be filled in. Think of yourself as a container of wealth, and your container needs to be massive. Visualize your container as massive, enormous — and wealth fills it in. Remember, the only limitations in life are the ones we impose on ourselves. A smaller container is your own limitation. How big can you dream?

How large are you going to visualize your container of wealth? Understand that the energy in the universe has to rush to fill that space in. Everything is energy, and that's all there is to it. Match your frequency to the vibration of the reality you want, and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy — this is physics.

As Albert Einstein said: everything is energy, and that's all there is to it. Match the frequency to the vibration of the reality you want, and you cannot help but receive it — it happens by law. Attracting money, attracting wealth, is a change in perception: re-evaluating an underlying paradigm, an underlying self-limiting belief that's holding you back.

At a conscious level, you might be saying, 'Universe, give me more money. Universe, thank you' — doing everything right on a conscious level. But subconsciously, if you're not ready for that level of success, and more importantly, if you're not ready for the responsibility that comes with that promotion, that new position, that amount of money to manage, because you have bad money-management habits, it won't stick. The universe can give you two hundred thousand dollars, but if the first thing you think is, 'I'm going to go buy a chain, I'm going to go buy a purse,' the universe is going to say, why? No.

Breaking the Generational Pattern▶ Watch from 19:30

And that money is going to stay away. It always starts with you. It starts with identifying whether you have any self-limiting beliefs, maybe a weak self-image around money, around wealth. Maybe you look at your family and think, 'Grandma and grandpa were living paycheck to paycheck. Mom and dad are kind of paycheck to paycheck too. I'm starting out and not really making it happen.' Understand that you're programmed for paycheck to paycheck, and you have to invest in yourself at a very high level to change that generational pattern.

We talked about keeping five-dollar bills. Take two hundred dollars, break it all into fives, and try not to spend it — just carry it with you. Allow that money, that physical representation of energy, to attract more of it. Yes, it's fives, but think of it as twenties. Think of it as fifties. Think of it as hundreds. Think of it as a thousand. Be the person who always has cash on them — it doesn't have to be an obscene amount of money.

Always have at least fifty to a hundred dollars on you at all times — if you have more, have more. I know we have Apple Pay, we have our phones, we can just tap to pay, and everything is so easy and convenient — but there's something different about the physical, tangible feeling of cash versus a number on a screen. Carrying it, feeling it, being conscious of it: that's the practice. Just something to consider — go back and rewatch today's video, and really begin to explore the possibilities. Attracting money applies to everybody. If you're watching this, you're likely not a billionaire with hundreds of thousands of dollars coming in weekly, living wherever and doing whatever you want, and just deciding to watch Matt's video for fun. You're probably here because you're not happy with your results, and you want new information to think about and work with.

You want new ideas to change and get to the next level — this is one of them. Start to implement these ideas. Start to attract more money. Change your perception on money. Change the idea of tipping, sending money out, giving money away, tipping people.

Everything is energy. When you help others, you help yourself in turn. Thank you again for joining us on another episode of Think With Me — I look forward to seeing you in a future episode.
